Camelot put on a fantastic show for racing fans as the superstar powered to an awesome success in the Investec Derby at Epsom on Saturday.
Aidan O’Brien’s 2000 Guineas hero started the race a well backed 8/13 favourite and he completed the Guineas-Derby double in style under the hands of a very relaxed Joseph O’Brien.
Despite being allowed to touch a massive 9/2 in-running on the exchanges, Camelot had far too much in his locker and his rivals could not go with him as he was sent for home going around Tattenham Corner.
He easily passed Astrology who eventually finished third and was five lengths clear of Main Sequence in second.
Bet Victor reacted to the result by slashing Camelot into 9/4 for the Arc, while
Ladbrokes went 1/3 on him winning the St Leger.
Delighted winning trainer jockey Joseph, son of Aidan O’Brien, explained: "I was a bit worried as he didn't come down the hill at all. He didn't handle the track that well, so he did well to win.
"He's a very special horse and I'm just very fortunate to be on his back. I owe a big thanks to the owners and everyone in the yard."
Meanwhile, Anne-Marie O'Brien, wife of the trainer explained: "I can't believe it, it's amazing.
"I met Lester Piggott last weekend and he said to tell Joseph not to be in any hurry. I'm really thrilled, it's incredible."
