Greatwood, who was a late withdrawal from Saturday's Lingfield Derby Trial because of the rain-softened ground, heads a field of eight for Thursday's Dante Stakes.

The Luca Cumani-trained colt was odds-on for last Saturday's contest only to be scratched shortly before the off due to deteriorating ground conditions, and will be the only horse to represent the Highclere Racing Syndicate on the Knavesmire, following news that the Syndicate’s Telescope will miss the race due to a minor infection.

In the latter horse's absence, Greatwood is one of three horses disputing favouritism for the York Group 2, with Paddy Power making him their clear market leader at 7/2. The son of Manduro got off the mark when landing a Polytrack maiden last autumn and was just touched off by Windhoek on his reappearance in the Tattersalls Millions 3-Y-O Trophy at Newmarket, with the re-opposing Ghurair (13/2 Paddy Power) in third.

Windhoek is also heading to the Knavesmire and is joint favourite at 3/1 with both Stan James and Boylesports following an easy Listed success, again at Newmarket, over Centurius on his latest start. He's the only runner in the field with an unbeaten record, although he's yet to be supplemented for the Epsom Derby.

Aidan O'Brien has been carrying all before him on the Derby trials front and he fields a fascinating contender in Indian Chief (7/2 Stan James). The son of Montjeu finished second to Derrinstown Stud Trial runner-up Loch Garman in a maiden at Navan in October and won easily on his reappearance at Leopardstown.

Jim Bolger, who already has Derby favourite Dawn Approach in his care, unleashes another colt with Classic aspirations in the shape of Trading Leather (11/2 bet365). Last season, he won a couple of mile races before failing to cope with soft ground in the Racing Post Trophy and, with stamina in his pedigree, is expected to appreciate the step up to 1m2f.

Saeed bin Suroor is represented by Secret Number (7/1 Stan James) in his bid for a third Dante Stakes success and the colt, who lost his unbeaten record when when third to Lines Of Battle in the UAE Derby, will be ridden by Silvestre de Sousa.

The eight-runner field is made up by David Elsworth's Dashing Star and the Elaine Burke-trained Libertarian.
