Telescope, who was a short-priced favourite for this Group 2 contest, misses the race due to a minor infection but his owners, the Highclere Racing Syndicate, will still be represented by Greatwood, who was a late withdrawal from Saturday's Lingfield Derby Trial because of the rain-softened ground.

The Luca Cumani-trained colt is one of three horses vying for favouritism for this Epsom Derby dress rehearsal with 7/2 on offer across the board, and connections will be hoping for a big run here to justify a run at Epsom. This York Group 2 is more competitive, though.

There are seven rivals set to take him on headed by Aidan O'Brien's Indian Chief, who was impressive when winning a Leopardstown maiden on his reappearance, and Mark Johnston's representative Windhoek. The latter horse has already finished ahead of Greatwood this season, with the pair filling the first two places in a valuable sales race at Newmarket.

Windhoek has since won again back at Newmarket, this time in Listed company, and is Boylesports' joint favourite for the Dante at 3/1 along with O'Brien's Indian Chief, although both can be backed at 7/2 with Stan James. The Ballydoyle maestro has been carrying all before him on the Derby trials front and the son of Montjeu looks yet another top prospect for the stable.

John Gosden fields Ghurair (7/1 Coral), who was a close third to Windhoek and Greatwood at Newmarket on his reappearance and is expected to appreciate to appreciate the step up to 1m2f. His Newmarket handler won this race with Benny The Dip in 1997.

Jim Bolger already has the favourite for the Derby in the shape of Dawn Approach and he unleashes another colt with Classic aspirations in the shape of Trading Leather (11/2 bet365), who won twice over a mile last season before being found out by soft ground in the Racing Post Trophy.

Saeed bin Suroor is represented by Secret Number (7/1 Stan James) in his bid for a third Dante Stakes success and the colt, who lost his unbeaten record when when third to Lines Of Battle in the UAE Derby, will be ridden by Silvestre de Sousa.

The eight-runner field is made up by rank outsiders Dashing Star and Libertarian.
