Libertarian sprang a 33/1 shock in the Dante at York this afternoon with Elaine Burke's charge denting some lofty reputations on the Knavesmire.
Rory Jiwani of StanJames.com
said, "Aidan O'Brien's Indian Chief was well-backed and we would have pleased to see anything beat him, let alone a 33/1. Elaine Burke has always spoken highly of Libertarian but this win came right out of the blue.
"As the winner of one of the premier Derby trials, Libertarian has to be taken seriously and we've cut him from 100/1 to 12/1 for Epsom. The way he stayed on indicates he'll only improve for the step up to a mile and a half as he looks to take the big prize up north for the first time since Dante in 1945.
"Indian Chief was well backed in recent days and his reverse suggests O'Brien doesn't have the ammunition to match Dawn Approach. We've cut Jim Bolger's 2000 Guineas winner from 5/4 to 11/10 with second favourite Battle Of Marengo out to 9/2."
Elaine Burke's Dante winner Libertarian is also 16/1 with StanJames.com for the St Leger for which Battle Of Marengo is our 4/1 favourite.
