25 Fillies Chasing Oaks Glory

The 2009 Investec Oaks has 25 fillies remaining following today’s scratchings stage. Run on Friday June 5th, Investec Ladies Day, the premier fillies’ Classic has prize fund of £350,000.

Sariska leap-frogged Rainbow View at the head of the Investec Oaks betting following an impressive three and three-quarter lengths victory over Star Ruby in the Group Two Tattersalls Musidora Stakes at York on May 13. The Michael Bell-trained filly improved for the step up to 10 furlongs having finished fourth on her seasonal debut over seven furlongs at Newbury in April.

Rainbow View headed the ante-post lists for the Oaks through the winter following an unbeaten juvenile campaign that included a stunning victory in the Group One Fillies’ Mile at Ascot. The John Gosden-trained filly stayed on late to finish fifth on her seasonal bow in the stanjames.com 1000 Guineas at Newmarket on May 3. Rainbow View is set to work at Epsom Downs on Thursday, May 28, at the Breakfast With The Stars media event.

Cuis Ghaire, runner-up to Ghanaati in the 1000 Guineas, as well as Aaroness and Oh Goodness Me could represent Jim Bolger, who saddled Jet Ski Lady to victory in 1991.

There are 10 Irish-trained fillies remaining, including the David Wachman-trained Again. The Danehill Dancer filly won three races last season including the Group One Moyglare Stud Stakes and is favourite for Sunday’s Irish 1,000 Guineas.

Beauty O’Gwaun is unbeaten in two starts for trainer John Oxx and was a head too good for Festival Princess in the Group Three Blue Wind Stakes at Naas on May 13.

The Aidan O’ Brien-trained Perfect Truth scored a narrow victory in the Listed Cheshire Oaks from the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Phillipina on May 6th, while Dermot Weld could run impressive Naas maiden winner Dance Pass.

Henry Cecil has won the Investec Oaks on eight occasions and has another prime contender in Midday. The Oasis Dream filly, runner-up in the Weatherbys Bank Blue Riband Trial Stakes at Epsom in April, was an impressive six-length winner of the Oaks Trial at Lingfield on May 9.

The Stoute-trained July Jasmine was runner-up in that Lingfield contest and the trainer could also be represented by Doncaster maiden winner Leocorno, a half-sister to Golan and Tartan Bearer who both finished second in the Investec Derby.

Barry Hills, fresh from Classic success with Ghanaati, could saddle Musidora Stakes fourth High Heeled.

The six-day confirmation stage for the Investec Oaks is on Saturday May 30th, when there is also a £20,000 supplementary entry stage.
